Facilitation notes for presenters and participants
Companion notes to the slide deck
lectures/01-practicalities.md. Useful for the
presenter (running order, timings, what each activity
expects) and for participants (what to expect, and the
admin links in one place).
This is the opening module of the full induction day, so it also carries the Acknowledgement of Country, day goals, and schedule.
| Time | Segment | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 5 min | Welcome, Acknowledgement, goals, schedule | Set the tone for the whole day. |
| 5 min | Task: Journey as an educator | Hands from the room; hear 2–3 prior teaching experiences. |
| ~25 min | The job: qualifications, timesheets, earnings codes, associated working time, contemporaneous marking, 1.5+0.5 structure | The dense admin block — pace it, don’t read every link aloud. |
| ~15 min | Safety, emergency contacts, where to get help, working with convenors | Slow down on safety: it’s the most important slide. |
| 5 min | Task: Getting to know you as a learner | 3 sticky notes (enjoy / challenges / support wanted); one of each per table. |
| ~10 min | Developing as a teacher — Kugel’s phases (self → subject → student → active → independent → tuning) | Frame as a journey, nobody is expected to be at “tuning”. |
| ~8 min | Task: What stages resonate for you? | Group discussion, then hear responses. Leads into the break. |
